MANDALA MONUMENT, MAKASSAR

Mandala Monument is located on Jl. Sudirman, with an area of one hectare of land, approximately 500 meters from Karebosi Field. Date January 11, 1994 security minister Susilo Sudarman laid the first stone, dated December 19, 1995 President Soharto travel to Makassar to inaugurate this historic monument. Makassar is the headquarters for the troops liberation of West Irian, then in this city of monuments buiding. The building is shaped equilateral triangle with soaring towers 75 meters above the ground. Triangles depict --Three Command of the People, on the bottom and top of the building there is a relief-shaped flames signify morale Trikora. On the first floor there are 12 dioramas, depicting people's war against the Dutch colonial Makassar to events Azis. On the second floor there is a diorama depicting the struggle for liberation of West Irian, who is now the Netherlands Papua still controls the West Irian.

All negotiations by the Indonesian government with the Netherlands in order to release Irian West, foundered without result, then in December 1961 President Soekarno sparked Trikora in the square north of Yogyakarta, using military force. Sukarno appointed Major General Soeharto as commander and command Mandala to assume the task of planning, preparing for, and conducting military operations to incorporate West Irian to Indonesia with a variety of military equipment from the Soviet Union.

The monument is presented exclusively history and impressive, so the next generation can live for a moment and then look back and realize where the real life these days is coming from. That freedom is acquired not solely fall from the sky, but from the struggle, hard work, as well as the blood spills predecessors. Predecessor known as Sultan Hasanuddin, his name remains eternally be the name of the airport, the university, and the highway

One thing that is really impressive is that I get back in the sentence pronounced Robert Walter Monginsidi, shortly before the death penalty is imposed, are the words memorized from the records when I was sitting at the High School. Monginsidi was born in Malalayang, Manado, son of Petrus Monginsidi and Lina Suawa started his education in and MULO then trained as a Japanese teacher, teaching Japanese in Minahasa and then Luwuk to Makassar. Monginsidi are in Makassar when Soekarno Hatta proclaimed Indonesia's independence. But the Dutch to regain control of Indonesia after the end of World War II. Monginsidi involved in the struggle against NICA in Makassar. On July 17, 1946 Monginsidi with Ranggong Daeng Romo and his colleagues formed Laskar Rebellion Rakyat Indonesia Sulawesi, arrested Holland in February 1947, but managed to free himself on October 27, 1947 the Netherlands arrested him again, this time the Netherlands sentenced him to death on September 5, 1949, will but the death penalty will not shake the confidence Monginsidi an independent nation. The last words spoken before death is "Faithful to the end in the belief ...."

Robert Walter Monginsidi is one of the many young people who volunteered to fall with a tragic and painful in the early years to a lofty ideals, the independence of the Indonesian nation. On 10 November 1950 Heroes Day Monginsidi bodies reburied at the Heroes Cemetery Makassar. Are there any last words spoken very young lads ahead of a death sentence would end up in vain? The Indonesian government finally can stand and sovereign independence, it means that the death penalty did not dampen Monginsidi-Monginsidi others will be convictions. But Sukarno once said, "My struggles is difficult, because the war against foreign nations, but your struggles more difficult, because you goes against your own people".

Is there a Mandala Monument stands in vain? On this visit we, 26 participants Training Pim III Group I of the Asmat regency in LAN Makassar held a short tour history to look back, dig up the struggle that occurred in the past. Each participant must have had a different perception with perspectives and different experiences. I momentarily as if ripped from the routine day-to-day with a tight schedule, passed away at a time that will never be able to visit the power then being swept up in very critical situations when everyone even willing to die to achieve a single word "independent". We, the generation that lived during this period stayed pluck, dig and then apply what is true that must be done every citizen in the era of independence?
